Most breakthroughs hide behind plateaus. This is the exact way to stay long enough to cross the line. Progress often looks like nothing — until it doesn’t. Show up for 14 days, do one meaningful action a day, and watch how the “flat line” starts to move. If you stay in the pocket a little longer, I promise — something will move.

I once thought results were the only proof that effort mattered. If the graph didn’t bump, the day didn’t count. Then came the long, echoing weeks before The Magic of a Moment found its readers. Publish. Refresh. Flat line.

Part of me wanted to quit. Another part whispered, Stay one more day.

That whisper was the smartest voice in the room.

Here’s my promise to you: if you keep showing up through the flat line — without theatrics, without reinventing your plan — something will shift. It may be quiet. It may appear as a single “yes” or a modest increase. But that small hinge is what the big door swings on.

This isn’t wishful thinking. It’s how thresholds work: nothing moves… nothing moves… and then everything does. From the outside, it looks like luck. From the inside, it feels like the jar is finally opening on the twentieth twist.

Let’s stay in it long enough to hear the click.

The Promise Inside the Plateau

Maintain high quality and a steady cadence. The plateau is doing more for you than applause ever could. You’re building a skill you’ll rely on later. You’re earning trust you can’t yet see. You’re becoming the person who can hold the opportunities coming your way.

I’m not promising instant payoff; I’m promising movement — if you don’t flinch before the threshold. You can’t schedule the exact day it breaks. You can only guarantee your presence when it does.

Make the smallest promise: one meaningful action per day tied to your real goal. Not busywork. Not one more round of formatting to delay the ask. Tap the same spot until the wall gives.

Keep the quality. Keep the cadence. Let the plateau do its quiet work.

Why Progress Hides (and Why That’s Good News)

Growth rarely looks like growth from the inside. Writers tighten sentences before readers multiply. Athletes clean up from before times drop. Businesses warm the “no’s” before the “yeses” land.

Progress starts internally — where no one can praise it and no one can take it.

When I first pitched The Magic of a Moment, replies were scarce. But the texture changed. “Not a fit” became “Circle back next month.” A gatekeeper who never replied sent a sentence of feedback. No confetti — just a heavier door that was no longer locked.

Those subtleties matter. Clearer drafts, calmer calls, kinder rejections — these are cut-line signals. Most people quit here because they expect the celebration before the breakthrough. It’s always the other way around.

How to Stay in the Pocket (Without Burning Out)

Staying isn’t heroics. It’s friction management.

Define tomorrow tonight. Not “work on the project,” but “ship 800 words,” “make the ask,” “call the person.”

Treat it like a meeting with someone you respect. You — future you — pays your bills.

Borrow belief when your energy dips. Use a mentor’s voice, a friend’s text, or a past win as scaffolding. Confidence rarely precedes action; it follows it.

Glance at metrics, don’t stare. Data is a compass, not a judge. If checking numbers becomes self-doubt theater, set a rhythm (weekly) and give your work the privacy it needs to grow.

Use a forgiving system. Miss a day? Don’t double the guilt — double the clarity. Return to the smallest step that still moves the real thing forward.

The goal isn’t perfection; it’s presence.

When It Finally Moves (What to Do Next)

When the line ticks up, it won’t look dramatic. A reader shares your post. A bookstore says yes. One email becomes three. The same small motions — now crossing an invisible line together.

Don’t sprint off the path to rebuild everything. Pause and capture what worked while it’s fresh:

What did I keep doing when nobody noticed?

What did I drop that didn’t matter?

What feels easier now — and how can I lean into it quickly?

Then keep your cadence. Say yes to conversations while doors are open. Share generously while attention is warm. Momentum isn’t a medal; it’s a resource. Steward it.

And when the next plateau arrives (it will), remember: that’s not a failure. It’s a new ledge with a better view — and the same promise holds.

The 14-Day Threshold Challenge (A Promise You Can Keep)

Before you close this tab, write one sentence:

“Tomorrow at [time], I will [specific action] toward [real goal].”

Put it where you can’t ignore it.

At that time, start — even if you feel flat. Thirty minutes of unglamorous, focused effort. Then stop. Mark it done.

Do this for 14 days. Not perfectly — faithfully.

On day 15, don’t judge your worth by the graph. Judge it by the density of meaningful actions you’ve stacked. That density weakens the wall.

You might not need a new strategy. You might need one more day. One more page. One more call. One more twist of the lid.

Most people quit a breath before the jar opens. Don’t be like most people.

I can’t promise timing.

I can promise this:

If you keep showing up with quality and cadence, something will move.

When it does, you’ll be ready — not because confidence finally arrived, but because you practiced being present when confidence was late.

Keep going. The threshold is thinner than it looks.

PS: The people who keep showing up past Day 14 usually send me a note saying something finally moved. I’d love to hear when yours does.

“In the space between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.” — Viktor Frankl

There’s something deeply empowering—and slightly terrifying—about realizing that you’re not just along for the ride in life. You’re driving. Every day, we’re making choices—some loud, some quiet—that shape who we become. That’s personal agency in action.

Personal agency is your ability to take intentional action, to respond rather than react, to move your life in the direction you truly want. And here’s the truth: whether you realize it or not, you’re already using it. The question is—are you using it in ways that serve you?

Let’s talk about what it means to use your personal agency today—not tomorrow, not next year—but right here, in the middle of your real life, with its chaos, responsibilities, and beauty.

What Is Personal Agency—Really?

Put simply, personal agency is the belief that your actions matter. It’s the internal compass that tells you, “I can influence my day, my mindset, my outcomes.” It doesn’t mean you control everything—but it does mean you control your response.

And the good news? Agency grows the more you use it.

Why It Matters

Without personal agency, it’s easy to become a passive character in your own story. You wake up, go through the motions, blame circumstances, wait for motivation, wait for the right time.

But when you reclaim agency, even in small ways, something changes. You shift from “I have to” to “I choose to.” That’s where freedom begins.

How I’m Using My Agency Today

Let me share a personal example.

This morning, I woke up feeling a bit off. Nothing dramatic—just the usual mental fog that sometimes greets us before coffee. It would have been easy to scroll, snooze, or coast through the first hour of the day.

But I paused. I asked myself a question I’ve come to rely on:

“What do I want to be true by the end of today?”

That question snapped me into action. I didn’t need a perfect plan—I just needed to choose the next right thing. I journaled. I went for a walk. I reached out to someone I’d been meaning to call. I moved toward what mattered, instead of waiting for the mood to strike.

That’s agency. Small. Intentional. Real.

5 Practical Ways to Use Your Agency Today

You don’t have to overhaul your life. But you can start using your agency in ways that build momentum and meaning.

1. Ask a Better Question

Instead of, “What do I have to do today?” try:

“What do I want to be proud of tonight?”

“What matters most right now?”

“What would the version of me I admire do next?”

Better questions lead to better actions.

2. Interrupt the Script

Notice your autopilot moments—reaching for your phone, grabbing junk food, avoiding a task—and insert a pause. Ask yourself: “Is this how I want to show up today?”

That micro-second of awareness can shift the whole pattern.

3. Say No to Something That Doesn’t Serve You

Agency isn’t just about what you start—it’s also about what you stop. Is there a commitment, conversation, or internal script you can say no to today? Reclaim your time and energy.

4. Choose a Micro-Win

Pick one small, specific action that reflects your values:

Write 100 words.

Go for a 10-minute walk.

Drink water instead of soda.

Send a thank-you text.

Action builds agency. Momentum compounds.

5. Remind Yourself: I Get to Choose

Post it on a sticky note. Say it out loud. Tattoo it on your soul if you need to. You get to choose how you respond, where your attention goes, and what you prioritize.

Final Thoughts: Build the Muscle Daily

Agency isn’t a one-time choice—it’s a muscle. The more you use it, the stronger it gets. And the best part? Each time you act with intention, you’re reshaping your identity. You’re becoming someone who responds with purpose, not passivity.

So I’ll ask you the same question I asked myself this morning:

“How will you use your personal agency today?”

Don’t wait for permission. Don’t wait for the perfect moment. Start now—with one small, intentional act. Because the life you want won’t appear fully formed. You build it, one empowered choice at a time.

Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of
changing himself. – Leo Tolstoy

This quote by Leo Tolstoy has followed me for years. It shows up at the most inconvenient—and most necessary—moments. It asks a question that cuts deep: Am I willing to change myself before trying to change the world around me?

That’s not always easy to answer honestly.

As someone who’s spent a lifetime helping others grow—leaders, teams, organizations—it’s humbling to admit that personal change is still the hardest work I do. Not because I don’t value it, but because it’s uncomfortable. It requires a level of honesty that doesn’t come with applause or awards. Just quiet courage.

When I Got Stuck in My Own Story

A few years ago, I found myself in a rut. I was busy, successful by most standards, but something was off. I felt restless. Like I was going through the motions—talking about purpose, but not feeling it deeply in my own life.

One morning on a walk with my golden retrievers—those furry therapists of mine—I realized I was looking outward for answers I needed to find inward. I’d been trying to “fix” things around me without first checking in with who I was becoming. That moment didn’t solve everything, but it woke me up.

It reminded me that lasting change always starts at home—in our own hearts, habits, and mindset.

So What Do We Do With That Truth?

If you’ve ever felt the tension between wanting to make a difference and feeling stuck in your own patterns, you’re not alone. The good news? We can start small. Here are a few things I’ve tried (and continue to practice) when I sense it’s time for an inner reset:

1. Check in with your values—then check your calendar.

I once sat down and listed my top five values. Then I compared them to how I was spending my time. Ouch. There was a gap. But that gap became a guide. It gave me the clarity to say no more often and yes to what actually mattered.

Try this: Write down your top three values. Then ask: How well am I living them right now?

2. Interrupt one unhelpful habit.

I have a tendency to “over-plan” instead of taking messy action. So I challenged myself: One small action before I plan it to death. That shift alone helped me regain momentum and confidence.

Try this: Pick one habit that’s holding you back—procrastination, overthinking, self-doubt—and replace it with a 5-minute action step.

3. Ask for real feedback.

I’ve learned to ask people I trust, “What’s something I don’t see about myself that might be limiting me?” It’s never easy to hear—but it’s always helpful. Growth doesn’t happen in isolation.

Try this: Reach out to a trusted friend or colleague. Be open. You don’t need to fix it all today—just start listening.

4. Make one micro-change.

Big change feels overwhelming. But tiny steps? Those are doable. I started journaling three sentences a day. That simple act reconnected me with my purpose and calmed the mental noise.

Try this: Choose a 5-minute habit: a short walk, a gratitude list, a deep breath before your next meeting. Do it daily for a week.

5. Align your life with your deeper why.

The biggest breakthroughs in my life have come when I stopped chasing approval and started living in alignment. That shift brings freedom. And with it, real impact.

Try this: Ask yourself: Where am I out of alignment right now? What’s one step I can take to reconnect with what truly matters?

The World May Need Changing—But So Do I

I still want to make a difference. I still care about helping others thrive. But I’ve come to believe that the most powerful change I can offer the world is the example of a life lived with honesty, integrity, and intentional growth.

So if you’re looking around and wondering how to change the world, start here. Start with yourself. Not because you’re broken, but because you’re brave enough to grow.

And trust me—when you change yourself, the world around you can’t help but shift too.

There was a time in my life when I thought things would just “work out.” If I kept showing up, doing my best, and hoping for the best, the pieces would eventually fall into place. But what I’ve learned—sometimes the hard way—is that real change doesn’t come by chance. It comes when we decide to stop drifting and start steering.

Jim Rohn said it plainly: “Your life does not get better by chance; it gets better by change.” That line hit me like a bolt of lightning the first time I heard it. It still does. Because if we want something different in our lives—more purpose, more peace, better health, deeper connections—it’s on us to choose it, to work for it, and to act on it.

Here are 10 practical ways I’ve used—and still use—to live that truth:

1. Get Clear on What You Really Want

Don’t chase someone else’s version of success. Write down three things you truly want for you. Clarity is power.

2. Break It Down

Big goals can feel overwhelming. Break them into small, daily steps. When I wanted to get healthier, I didn’t start with a gym membership—I just started walking every morning.

3. Make It Visual

I’ve got quotes on my wall, reminders on my phone, and sticky notes on my desk. We move toward what we see.

4. Schedule It Like It Matters—Because It Does

I block time on my calendar for what matters most, even if it’s just 15 minutes. If it’s not scheduled, it usually doesn’t happen.

5. Track the Little Wins

Whether it’s a checkmark, a journal entry, or just saying “I did it” out loud—it helps. Progress fuels progress.

6. Don’t Do It Alone

Some of my biggest breakthroughs came from people who believed in me before I believed in myself. Find your people.

7. Cut One Thing That’s Holding You Back

Maybe it’s scrolling. Maybe it’s overcommitting. Let one thing go to make room for what you really want.

8. Celebrate More Often

I used to wait until the big goal was done. Now I celebrate the steps along the way. It keeps things joyful.

9. Learn from What Didn’t Work

When I miss a goal, I ask, “What did this teach me?” Then I reset. No shame, just learning.

10. Say This Out Loud: “Change Is Up to Me”

I say it often—because it’s easy to forget. But the truth is, I’m not waiting for life to happen to me. I’m shaping it. One small step at a time.

If there’s something you’ve been waiting for, consider this your nudge. Don’t wait for someday. Start today—with one small change.

So, you’re on the hunt for some fresh ideas to improve things in your life, huh? Awesome! Let’s dive right in and make it a fun adventure!

First off, get curious! Ask yourself some fun questions. What’s bugging you? What little tweaks could make a big difference? It’s like a treasure hunt for ideas!

Next, step outside your bubble. Inspiration is everywhere! Go for a walk in the park, check out a funky art exhibit, or just people-watch at your favorite café. You never know when a cool idea will pop up just by observing the world around you.

Don’t underestimate the magic of teamwork! Grab some friends or coworkers and have a brainstorming session. Make it relaxed and encouraging so everyone feels free to toss out their wild ideas. Sometimes the best concepts come from a bit of group energy!

And hey, take a moment to reflect on your past experiences. What’s worked for you before? What hasn’t? Jotting down your thoughts in a journal can be a fun way to track your ideas and figure out what you really want.

Finally, remember to keep it playful! Treat this whole improvement thing like a fun game. Celebrate those little wins, because each idea is a step forward.

So, get curious, collaborate, reflect, and have a blast! You’ll be swimming in awesome ideas for improvement before you know it.

Happy hunting!

Hey there, friends! Today, let’s chat about something close to my heart—habits! You might think, “Oh, just another list of things I should do.” But hear me out! These are not just habits; these are the little nuggets of wisdom that can genuinely flip the script of your daily life. And the best part? They’re as easy as pie!

1. Morning Gratitude: Start Your Day Right!
Imagine waking up and first thinking of three things you’re grateful for. It could be as simple as your cozy bed, that sunny spot in the kitchen, or even your favorite mug. This tiny habit can shift your mindset from grumpy to grateful in seconds! It sets a positive tone for the day; your mood will thank you.

2. Hydration Nation: Drink Water!
Everyone talks about drinking more Water, but here’s the scoop! Staying hydrated can boost your energy levels, improve your mood, and even help your skin glow like it’s been kissed by the sun! So, grab that water bottle and make it your best friend. Challenge yourself to finish it by noon, and you’ll feel like a million bucks!

3. Move Your Body: Dance Like Nobody’s Watching!
Exercise doesn’t have to mean hitting the gym for hours. Nope! It can be as simple as a walk around the block, some light stretches, or even a little dance party in your living room. Moving your body releases those feel-good endorphins, and trust me, you’ll feel lighter, happier, and ready to tackle whatever life throws at you!

4. Digital Detox: Unplug to Recharge!
In this age of technology, we often forget the beauty of the real world. Set aside time each day to unplug from your devices. Go for a walk, read a book, or enjoy the beauty. You’ll be amazed at how refreshing it feels to reconnect with the world without the distractions of screens.

5. Connect with Others: Make Time for Those You Love!
Life is all about connections. Reach out to a friend you haven’t spoken to in ages, or set up a weekly coffee date with someone special. Those little moments of connection can bring joy and fulfillment you didn’t even know you were missing. Plus, it’s always great to share a laugh or two!

6. A Little Mindfulness: Breathe and Be Present!
Take a moment each day to pause and breathe. Whether meditation, deep breathing, or simply sipping your tea mindfully, being present can reduce stress and enhance your overall well-being. Just a few minutes can make a world of difference!

Wrap Up!
So there you have it, folks! These little habits are not just fluff; they can transform your life. They’re easy to incorporate into your day and can lead to a happier, healthier you. Remember, it’s the small steps that often lead to the most significant changes. So why not give them a whirl? Here’s to living our best lives, one joyful habit at a time! Cheers!

“Setting goals is the first step in turning the invisible into the visible.” — Tony Robbins

Hey there, friends! Let’s dive into a question bouncing around in many minds: “Do I need goals?” Now, I get it—you might be thinking, “Goals? Pfft! Isn’t that just for the ambitious, 20-something folks?” But hold on a second! Whether you’re 7 or 70, let’s explore why having goals can be as delightful as a warm chocolate chip cookie fresh out of the oven.

First off, let’s think about what goals are. They’re like those little road signs on your journey through life. They give you direction, help you track your progress, and keep you from driving in circles. And who doesn’t want to avoid those pesky detours, right? Even if you’re not aiming for the moon, having some personal markers can make your daily adventures more exciting!

You might wonder, “But Gary, can’t I just enjoy life without goals?” Absolutely! Life is meant to be savored. However, having goals doesn’t mean you must turn into a robot, marching toward some distant Finish Line. Think of them as a sprinkle of joy on your cupcake—extra sweet and fun! They can be as simple as reading a new book each month or mastering baking the perfect loaf of bread.

Setting goals can also provide a sense of accomplishment. You know that rush of joy when you cross something off your to-do list? Imagine feeling that on a larger scale! Setting and achieving goals—no matter how small—can boost your confidence and self-esteem. It’s like giving yourself a well-deserved pat on the back. Plus, it encourages you to keep pushing forward, even when life throws you a curveball.

And let’s not forget about the social aspect of goals! Sharing your aspirations with friends or family can create a supportive community around you. You’ll be surprised how many people want to cheer you on or join you on your journey! “Hey, let’s try that new yoga class!” or “How about we start a book club?” Goals can be a delicious way to connect with others and share in the joy of achievement.

Here’s the kicker: your goals don’t have to be grand or life-altering. They can be as simple as trying a new hobby or taking a different route on your evening walk. Life is about enjoying the little moments; goals can help you appreciate them even more.

So, do you need goals? Well, it depends! If you’re looking for a little extra joy, focus, or motivation, then why not give them a shot? Goals can be a fun way to navigate life’s twists and turns. Just remember to keep it light, keep it joyfully, and most importantly, keep it ‘you.’

So grab that pen, jot down a few small aspirations, and let the adventure begin! Here’s to living life with a sprinkle of purpose and joy. Cheers!
